Rado was founded by 3 brothers, Fritz, Ernst and Werner Schlup in 1917 in Lengnau, Switzerland in their parents house and grew to be the world's largest producers of movements by the mid 1940s.
In the year 1957, Rado came out with the Golden Horse and Green House collections and had a presence in over 61 countries by the year 1960.
Rado released its iconic Captain Cook diver in 1962, a 37mm diameter watch.
The 60s was also and important time for consumer dive watches with well known brand like Rolex, Blancpain, Oris and Omega pushing hard for innovations as the segment became popular with people.
The Rado Captain Cook watch was named after the British explorer, James Cook. This first model stopped its production with only 8,000 produced in 1968 due to fierce competitions from other larger brands
As a matter of fact, the Rado Captain Cook held a small place in its overall portfolio until the vintage-inspired theme are all in rage these days and Rado simply capitalized on the trend and re-introduces the Captain Cook model.

Rado Captain Cook Bronze is a watch designed to stand the test of time. This model features a bronze case for a perfect combination of ancient and modern materials.
The pivotal point of this version is the bronze case. Since there are multiple choices of bronze alloy, Rado opted for the CuAl with aluminium and copper in it for better corrosion resistance unlike the more traditional bronze of copper and tin which tends to gain green patina quicker.
This Rado Captain Cook Bronze comes with a screwed titanium caseback, three beautifully stamped seahorses – a signature element of the vintage model. Water resistance of 300 metres with a neat screw-down crown.
The bezel is available in three colours, green, dark blue and brown. The dial is domed, just like the older model and plays on sexy curves and shapes. The sunray brushed surface changes colours playfully in accordance to the ambient of light.
Satin flange framed the dial with minute track, gold coloured indexes with cream Super-LumiNova for a retro look. The hands, and that includes the Rado well known arrow hand follow the same design and finishing.
The movement for this particular Rado Captain Cook Bronze is the every reliable ETA C07 or they called it Powermatic in other Swatch Group brands. The lower frequency of 3Hz from the reworked kinetic chain resulting in 80 hours of stamina for the watch, when it is worth noting that many watches in this range has only half of the power reserve.
